Somewhere I read that you should treat your car like you would a national park…take out everything you bring in. A great habit is to grab empty soda cups, napkins or candy wrappers to toss in the trash every time you gas up or get out of your car. Here are a few other tips to keep your ride looking as sharp as possible:

Plan a regular cleaning

  • Swipe the dust off the dash, or use a cleaner like Armor-All Cleaning Wipes or regular baby wipes.
  • Take out the floor mats and give them a whack then vacuum up any leftover debris. If you have the all-weather floor mats, hose off any dirt and let them dry.
  • Vacuum out the interior of your car, and pay close attention to the seat crevices.
  • Clean the windows, inside and out. Roll the windows down and make sure to get the gunk that collects near the seal.

Organize the inside

  • Use an empty pill bottle or plastic gum container to corral loose change. Store it in the glove box.
  • Keep a handful of extra straws, napkins and any plastic utensils you might get from a drive-through in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag in your glove box.
  • Make sure you have an emergency road kit in the trunk.
  • Get a trunk storage organizer like the Honey Can Do to organize sports gear, groceries, or anything else you need to haul with you, or use an extra laundry basket or plastic storage bin.
  • Keep a handful of plastic grocery bags in an empty Kleenex box or paper towel tube and stash that in your car for easy trash pick-up. It also comes in handy if you end up with a carsick passenger!

On-the-go

  • Pack car bags for your kids (equipment and supplies for each activity you’re headed to, and busy bags for younger siblings who have to tag along).
  • Create a mobile office using a bin or bag to store whatever supplies you need, then take it in the house and office with you. It’s also easy to move if a passenger needs the front seat.
  • Store things like sports chairs and coolers on a shelf in the garage near your car so they’re easy to grab when you need them.

Just like in your house or garage, make sure everything in your car has a place and a purpose. And while you’re getting inspired to clean out your vehicle, remember we love to organize garages. Give us a call to help give your clean car a tidy home!
